I plug in My Passport Essential and it does show up as a device but it does not show up as a drive. I tried to update the firmware/smartware but it gives me the error “Too many attempts” and when I try to “Erase” it from the website it also gives me an error “Unexpected Error”. Any help would be appreciated.
I think you have made the things more complicated. If the firmware on your Passport get corrupted; there is no way of recovering your drive or data.
In case your drive is still in good condition, please read following post to make your drive working back again.
