My passport showing up as empty...though shows 600+ gigs used

So I have this my passport 2tb that i purchased in 2012 that I use on my macbook pro with no problem. I Dj, so ive put the itunes library file directly onto the external hard drive in order to keep at the music on there so as not to limit my macbook hard drive space. Today upon plugging in my external hard drive before turning on my macbook (I always have my macbook on with the hard drive connected, never without),

it shows up on my finder the same way i named it, but it doesnt show any files whatsoever. BLANK. I click on more detail and can see that 600+ gigs are being used. Then it crashes my finder and I am not able to relaunch it. Im running all the latest mac os with all the updates etc. I have a mac desktop as well, so I tried plugging it into there as well. First time, it showed some of the files including the itunes library file (the most important), and makes finder unresponsive and unable to relaunch.

Since then tried shutting off the computer, restarting with the hard drive plugged in, tried plugging it in when computer is already working and finder just crashes over and over. PLZ HELP ME…

Hello,

Based on the information you have provided I believe the partition is corrupted and you need to format the drive in order to use it again. However, A bad USB cable can also cause this issue.

Try replacing the USB cable, if you still have the same issue you may try to recover your data by using a data recovery software. After you have your data recovered you may format the drive in order to use it again.
