My Passport SE for Mac 1TB not showing promised capacity

I got a My Passport SE for Mac with 1TB as a present, and since I use a PC I had to reformat it. I did as told by the instructions on the WD site, but I ended up with 931GB instead of the promised 1000GB. Strangely, I tested it on the Mac before formating it and the computer showed the full 1TB storage capacity. Did I do something wrong? Is this HDD only 1TB for show?

This is the Binary capacity. Computers normally display capacity in binary (base 2) instead of decimal (base 10) measurement. Later OS do show the correct capacity, if you upgrade to 10.6.x will see the right capacity displaying.

You do have the right capacity ( 1000 gb decimal / 931 binary). For more info check  this

Wizer is right.  it’s decimal vs. binary.  later mac’s will show the capacity in decimal, but data is still being store in binary.  so, it is what it is.  931 GB’s is exactly what you should have.
