I have an old My Passport 1TB drive with some important information. I keep on entering the password but it shows that it is invalid. I am sure of the password, I have even checked my written one and the hint, they all confirm that my password is right!
I don’t remember the last time I used the portable drive, but I think it was a couple of months ago and it worked fine!
This is an update on the case. The basic conclusion here is that you can’t retrieve your drive’s data if you lose the password! In my case, I did not. Your only option as WD support has informed me is to contract 3rd party data recovery firms or try different online software at your own risk. They use 256 AES encryption, that normal users like ourselves can’t really penetrate.
The good news, their encryption works. Bad news, the drive can’t be accessed if you face a similar case as above.
