My Passport external drive won't work with USB hub

Problem was very intermittent, but slowly got worse recently.  Using a DYNEX 4 port hub to connect the drive, keyboard and mouse.  Drive would hang up, unresponsive, Windows Explorer would say not responding.  Numerous reboots.  Numerous disconnect drive, reconnect, then wait for Windows Indexing to finish.  A royal pain.  WD diagnostics did not report any errors.  Reconnected drive to a direct port on the PC, not via hub, now everything is perfect.  I was beginning to lose confidence in WD drives, but the real culprit was the DYNEX hub.  I have my entire music collection on this drive, was beginning to worry it might be lost.  Parts of it are backed up on a Seagate drive, but not all of it.

I would not trust important to just one drive no matter who makes it. The forum is full of people who put all of their family pics, movies, music on an external as the only copy then some problem occured. As cheap as externals are now I would recommend getting another and make a copy of your important files. You are lucky with your experience with the hub, it could have corrupted the drive and made it inassesible.
