First of all, I had a WD My Book that developed a problem and diagnosed to be faulty. A replacement was suggested. I purchased a new WD 3TB My Passport. Being a novice to most of the IT stuff, I purchased what was a good buy at Best Buy. They matched Amazons price. I was not aware, that there might be a specific My Passport for my Mac. ?? Is this so? Is there a specific WD My Passport for Mac? Anyway, my Bad. The installation process became apparent. So, I contacted WD Technical Support and immediately had a language barrier on contact. I am hard of hearing to boot and this made the process almost impossible with a novice, such as myself. Somehow, the Associate was able to setup my new MY Passport and it is now working and backing up via Time Machine.
However, it seems like the user ( Me ) does not have the capability to setup a managed backup program. My operating system is Sierra 10.12.6. From the System Preferences for Time Machine, it seems to me that the backups are Automatic. Is that so? If, that is the case, so be it, but if there is a way to setup a managed backup program ( IE. Time, Day, How Often ) How can I accomplish this? This may be a situation, I created by not being an informed buyer. Perhaps, there is a publication called WD MY Passport for Mac Dummies? Thanks.
Hi nuguy ,
Maybe you should contact Apple Support to manage the backup in Time Machine.
Thanks!
