My Passport 2TB USB 3: correct (!) password no longer accepted AND cannot erase (Mac)

(Sorry for having posted this in the wrong category before)

Problem 1: Suddenly password - which is 100% correct - no longer accepted.

Problem 2: Trying to erase and reformat in Disk Utility also fails: error message “Cannot eject”

What can I do to force erase / reformat? Or is this a know “hardware” issue?

The disk is only a few months old, and has been lying on my desk (no abuse). I have used it for my Time Machine, successfully until recent.

Hello,

You can try typing the password 5 times wrong and the system should ask you to reformat the drive.

Please note that the unit will remove all the information on the drive.
