My Cloud app: How to re-set/establish new E-mail address?

I have an MPW 2 TB Model E2B, P/N: WDBDAF0020BBK-02. Haven’t used it for about 7 months and have forgotten the E-mail address and pw used when the MyCloud app might first have been run.

My problem/question is: When I start the MyCloud app on either my Windows 10 desktop or my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro (running Android 5.0.2), I’m asked for my E-mail address and pw. I don’t remember what E-mail address or pw I used months ago.

I can get to the dashboard using both my desktop and my Samsung tablet by typing-in the standard IP address, and I can see the icons for:

  • Home
  • WiFi
  • Admin
  • Hardware
  • Media
  • Support and
  • Firmware

I’ve updated the firmware (via SD card formatted as FAT32) to 1.06.06, and that is confirmed by clicking on the Home icon of the dashboard, along with Capacity and Battery.

I’ve done a system only reset by holding both the Power and WPA buttons for about 10 secs.

I’ve twice downloaded and installed both the desktop and mobile versions of the My Cloud app to the respective devices.

FWIW, under the “WiFi” tab/icon,

  • the “Connected Devices” box/frame shows only “me” and has a “Refresh” button,
  • the “My Passport Wireless” box/frame shows “MyPassport” and has an “Edit” button, and
  • the “WiFi Networks” box/frame shows my network names and and On/OFF button.

I have no problems accessing the “Public” folder of the MPW, seeing the drive’s contents, and joining my home network.
I’ve been able to connect to the MPW simultaneously with both my desktop computer and my Samsung tablet. (Both “me” and the Android tablet appear in the “Wifi - Connected Devices” box/frame).
I’ve been able to do most of the things I’ve wanted to do, except:
- add/control users users.through the mycloud app, and
- add a folder to the “root” of the drive. (Right now the drive has a “Public” and an “sd” folder, and that is all. I can add folders under either of those, but can’t add folders at the same level as those.

It’s my understanding that adding users is to be done through the My Cloud app, with either the desktop or mobile version.
When using the MyCloud app, I’m stymied by the need to log-in with an E-mail address and pw I no longer remember.

Since the MPW can be updated via the MyCloud app, there must be some software that must reside on the MWP to allow updates. I see nothing listed on the MPW like “mycloud.exe”, or “mycloud.apk”.
Should I be looking on the MPW for an app or other program file that might be missing?

Must I do a “System and Disk” reset?

I also thought that a reset would “undo” the effects of the initial running of the mycloud app and force me into responding anew, including the entry of an E-mail address and pw. That doesn’t seem to have happened following the re-set.

How can I add/drop users if I can’t get either version of the mycloud app to move beyond the log-in process?

Looking forward to authoritative/experienced replies.

All help would greatly appreciated.

Resetting the MPW to defaults requires the MPW to be reconfigured like it was new.

My MPW does not require me to use an email address, so when you mention the my cloud app you must not be referring to the MOBILE app but the mycloud.com computer app. I never used that one.

If so, you need to get info on that computer app. I don’t recall if it is mentioned in the complete downloadable user manual, which I presume you have. Maybe you need to call WD support to get the answer to your question…

Mike,
Thanks for the quick response.
I’m beginning to suspect that either I somehow got a very old version of the MPW software, or the firmware update didn’t work as I expected.
FWIW, it’s both the desktop and the mobile version of the mycloud app which are displaying a screen that requires an E-mail log-in and pw; it’s not the MPW drive itself.

I was very happily surprised to receive a reply from someone named Jonathan at WD who suggested I try going to the Dashboard, then to an option titled “Cloud Access” in order to change E-mail addresses.
I see no such option on my dashboard, and sent him a screen shot of what I do see.
The fact that I don’t see that as an option leads me to suspect that the software on the MPW is very old, or somehow got tainted/corrupted in the System reset.
I’m hoping he can reply with more help.

If I find a solution that solves my problem, I’ll post it here.

Thanks again.

I think the WD rep gave you some bad info: Cloud Access is a dashboard option for the My Cloud DEVICE (which I also have), but it is not on the MPW dashboard. Seems the rep got his devices confused.
