I have a 4TB MyBook. I’ve also been habitually saving to OneDrive instead of to my (aging) hard drive. OneDrive has been fine, and I can import from OneDrive to the MyBook whenever I want with no problem. What I want to know is whether I can set up the MyBook to back up from OneDrive rather than from C:\.
Obviously, if I’m not saving to the hard drive, then having the hard drive as the source for backups isn’t doing me any good at all. I asked WD this, and got this:
I understand the concern that you want to use OneDrive App to access the data on the My Book. You can certainly access the imported data on the WD Drive. However to know more about how to add previously imported data I would recommend you to contact Microsoft Support.
That’s … not what I was asking at all. I already have good, dependable cloud storage, and I have a good external drive in the MyBook. What I want is to have the cloud storage so that I can access it anywhere, and also a local physical back-up that I can access without internet. It would be the easiest thing in the world if WD allowed me to choose which drive to back up, but the only options are C:\ and Dropbox, which I don’t use.
As I said, the WD Discovery works great, and the “import from OneDrive” on WD Discovery works great. All I’m asking is whether or not there’s a way to make that import automatic and routine instead of me doing it manually, to make OneDrive the target drive that MyBook looks at to find data.
Many thanks to anyone who knows.
