My Book Essentials no longer showing up on 'My Computer' or Disk Management

I have two My Books.

One works the other does not.

They have both worked (on the same system) for months.

The My Book that has dissappeared is showing up on Device Manager

…but not Disk Management or My Computer.

Device Manager says “This device is working properly”.

Disk Management/My Computer does not show it at all.

I have tried:

~ Swapping USB cords

~ Trying different ports

~ XP System Restore (twice) … and updating system afterwards

~ Uninstalling and re-installing devices

~ Uninstalling and re-installing drives

~ Some ‘Tweak UI’ download from CNET that did absolutely nothing

~ Searching the internet for 2 days looking for an answer

Is there anything I am missing? What’s next?

I’m now looking into hooking the thing up as a ‘slave drive’ (or something?)

…to access my converted record collection that took me, literally, hundreds

of man hours to put onto this device.

NEVERMIND, I GUESS THE DRIVE JUST “FAILED” AND I’M S.O.L.

And this is supposed to be a “Plug and Play” device??

Hahaahaaa. What a waste of life

:smileyvery-happy:

Oh well, an expensive lesson but that’s the last Western Digital device I buy.

Hello,

Before you decide if the drive is faulty or not, did you contact WD technical support? You can do so either by phone or email.
