I just bought a new 4 Ter WD My book. as I needed some space and a central point for storage.
I can copy small files and folders fine, but when I group folders or files together into a massive copy, of 10s or 100s of gigs, the copying starts reasonable, about 100mb/s…but slowly ramps down to 30-40 meg/s and it has gone under 1 mb/s to even as low as under 10kb/s (showing upwards of 45-50 days to copy these files)
I am running windows 7 64 bit with the USB cable provided direct into the motherboard which has USB 2.0 and this drive as advertised is USB 2.0 compatible. I’ve search online already with suggested fixed with optimize performance for within windows and other suggested tricks, I even installed 3rd party copy programs to see if that resolves the issue, but the speed still ramps down within 10-15 mins to a total crawl.
I’ve never had this problem before with any drive, internal or external, so I am surprised this is happened. Is there anything I can do to resolve the issue?
I like say, a small group of files is fine…larger groupings seem to be be the issue. I can literally watch it ramp down.
