My internal Drive is full, mostly because the photos I edit. So I have bought this My Book and try to solve this by moving the photos I edit an have edited to My book. My Book would for those photos work as external drive, without any backup as I cannot see why you should. I would still keep the Win Pictures folder in laptop as work area, but backed up in My Book. I wonder if anybody has similar solutions, or comments, as this is quite new to me?
