My laptop completely lost power during a transfer of video data to my 500 GB ext WD HD. When I rebooted the computer, all the WD HD data FOLDERS were now 32k bit files that could not be opened. The WD HD still says it is half full but I can’t get access to any of the data. Windows Help doesn’t help. Can anyone out there help me recover those picture/video files?

Based on the information you provided it is safe to think the partition may be corrupted. I recommend you try using a data recovery software in order to recover your files and it that does not work then you may consider a data recovery company.
