For those who may be having issues with their WD My Passport external hardware, I received the below from the company. I just bought this not too long ago, too.
"I would regret to inform you that your backup software WD Backup is a end of life software, so there can be multiple malfunctions that you may encounter.
I would recommend you to please use the Acronis true Image for western Digital for backing up your computer.
