Go to the drive settings on WD Smartware to disable the standby feature.-
martinbbird, the suggestion provided by ricardodegracia will work depending on which Western Digital External Hard Disk Drive is the one you currently possess, as not all of them will provide you with this feature. Are you able to kindly share the Model Number of your WD External Hard Disk Drive?
If you do have a device compatible with WD SmartWare, then following ricardodegracia’s advice should suffice. If not, more details will allow for more Users to better help you.
