Is there a list of media players compatible with the WD MyCloud app software?

Hi All,

Have transferred my media library across to my WD MyCloud (in .mkv format with AC3 sound) and downloaded the WD MyCloud app from the store on my iPad 1 so I access my cloud remotely. My video’s play but I get an error in VLC player about it not supporting the AC3 audio codec (no sound!) It gives me a list of about 4 other media players which I’ve tried (nPlayer, AcePlayer etc). I’ve tried those - the cloud software either doesn’t prompt to open the installed media player or for the ones that do they also have the same problem about not being compatible with AC3.

The app works fine with my smaller android tablet using its built in media player but obviously the iPad is preferred as it has a much bigger screen.

Is there a complete list of media players for iPad 1 which will work with the My Cloud app (ie: will open when I open a video) and that are compatible with AC3 sound??

I believe the new version of VLC media player is compatible with AC3 (they’ve sorted out their differences with Dolby!) but it’s only available on newer ipads like the iPad mini and not the iPad 1 I have.

Don’t want to have to go through all my library re-encoding audio so any advice appreciated.

Have you looked at and read the User Manual for your generation of My Cloud? In the User Manual see CH.11 P79.

Your problems are likely because you are using an ancient iPad 1. We have one of these, but it was retired 5 years ago when we got iPad 3rd Gen of 2012. Last month we each got new 2017 iPads, that are better in all ways from the 2012 model we had been using. In addition, it costs half as much as the gen 3 models did. We got them on sale from Costco for $350; for $70 less than from the Apple store.price of $429. Costco’s $40 off sale is over, but still less than Apple price.

At any rate, watch for any price of iPad 2017 around $350-390. IT IS TIME TO UPGRADE YOUR iPAD if you really care about using one.
