Install on Exteranl hard drive

I recently purchased the following:

“Western Digital WD Elements 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDBAAR5000ABK-NESN”

Can I get WD Smartware to install for this drive?

No. I believe that SmartWare looks for the VCD on the external drive.
