I am using a 4Tb WD MyCloud connected to the router but having difficulty getting it to backup separate partitions from my computer. I am running Windows 10 and trying to use WD Smartware.
I can start WD Smartware OK and on the home tab I see my pc. I can use the dropdown menu to select the partition that I would like to backup.
In the rigt pane I can select “WD My Cloud” which then has a light blue background.
I then click on the Backup tab in File View and get a tree diagram of the folders and files on that partition. So far so good.
I select Set Backup Frequency and check “Continuous.” I also click on enable backup, which then has turned to a blue “disable backup” icon. Still so far so good.
I have selected lots of folders and files yet at the right hand side on the same Backup tab it still says “Files 0” and “Size 0.00Kb”. Sometimes the WDMyCloud icon just to the left of that data says “Login required. Click the above device image for access.” When I do that nothing happens. However, at the moment it is telling me how much space is available (plenty, although I have already used some for shares) and how much has been used, The latter comprises “Other backups”, in a dark blue rectangle and “Additional Files” in a grey rectangle. However, nothing seems to be backing up from here! To check I click on the “Retrieve” tab and this volume is not shown on the “Backed up Volumes” box.
Please can anyone help by suggesting what I may be doing wron or pointing to possible solutions. I have had this a little while but have not contacted anyone for support yet. (Partly because I have been unwell since originally setting this up.) I would really appreciate any help.
Thank you.
Ian
Try mapping the Public and SmartWare shares in Windows Explorer in order tp keep active credentials. You can also test WD SmartWare with a USB hard drive. If it fails to progress then I’d recommend reinstalling the app.
@IAN Have you looked at the Help tab and read the information under Backup? Follow those instructions and see what happens.

Hi Trancer,
Thank you for your reply and ideas. I have just mapped those folders, as you suggested, and am trying to restart the backup to see what happens.(It looks like I have to do that by either disabling then re-enabling the backups as there isn’t a refresh option, or by switching to category and then back to file view.) When you say to test the software with a USB drive you mean as an alternative destination, presumably? I will try that later, too, although don’t have a spare blank one to hand right now. Reinstalling the app may well be the next thing to try after that. I have a feeling that I’ve done that already, but can’t be sure now.
I’m wondering whether selectively deleting existing “redundant” backups may be a good idea, too, although am not sure whether I would need to do that through the apps, or just directly through Windows Explorer. The long names don’t seem to reference which partition backups they are so I’d have to look at the contents and then deduce it from there if I were to use the deletion from Windows Explorer method. I’m thinking that could help me to see what is being currently as opposed to historically backed up, too. (Hopefully your USB idea will help to achieve that anyway.)
Thanks again for your help, which I appreciate.

PS Do you know whether the current download for Windows 10 is the same as the one for Windows 7, at http://setup.wd2go.com/?mod=download&device=mc, if that proves necessary?
Hi cat0w.
Thank you for your reply and suggestion. Yes, I have looked at the help tab, but couldn’t find anything that quite fitted what I was experiencing. The help section is useful but, unfortunately, I still hadn’t been able to resolve the problem. Was there a particular part of the backup section of the help that you had in mind?

PS I just downloaded WD Smartware from http://setup.wd2go.com/?mod=download&device=mc and got a message saying that a newer version is already installed when I began to run it. Curious. I was wondering whether I’d still be able to continue using the “pro” version which I currently have installed if I did do a reinstall, so was just looking to see what was offered.
OK, following on from my reply to Trancer, above, here is a snapshot of what it looks like now the backup to my “H” partition is restarting. So far it is still showing zero files on the right hand side of this window, but I will report back when it has had more time to do some of the “copying files” that is shown at the top of the same. I hope this helps to show what I was trying to explain before.
Eleven hours later and the figures shown are still zeros. I think I can safely assume that all is not as it should be.
If you already have the pro version you should have gotten an e-mail with a Activation Code. When you have to reinstall or install on another computer then you enter that code.
Here is an image of what my Content Gauges look like after a backup is completed. You can see the files and sizes match up too.
Click on, tap or activate image to enlarge it.

Thank you for continuing to help. I found the email with the activation code so have uninstalled and reinstalled WD Smartware Pro and will see what happens when all is set up again.
