How to view Recycle Bin on external MyPassport Drive

I get this error message: “The recycle Bin on E:\ is corrupt …” The explorer utility doesn’t show any recycle bin on this drive. So where is it, and how do I stop getting this message?.

Hello,

has anything changed on your computer before you started getting this issue with he recycle bin ?

Hi,
It is hard for me to recall all the changes. Probably the most significant may be having to replace my hard drive.
I did find with a Google search how to view the recycle bin on the external HD. It is a hidden folder. There were 3 files in it. I had deleted these 3 files on the computer’s internal drive. Perhaps it was detected by the backup that they no longer existed and need not be backed up and could be placed in the recycle bin. Since the message I manually deleted these 3 files in the external HD recycle bin. It is empty right now. I have not done a backup since getting this message so I am monitoring the circumstances if it should occur again after a backup.

The error message you’re seeing likely means the “recycle bin” on your external drive has become corrupted. Even though you don’t see the recycle bin external hard drive every drive has a hidden folder where deleted files are stored https://www.hаndyrecovery.com/recycle-bin-on-external-hard-drive/. To fix the “recycle bin external hard drive” issue, try opening Command Prompt and running the command rd /s /q E:\$Recycle.bin (replace “E” with your drive letter). This will delete the corrupted Recycle Bin folder, and Windows will recreate it automatically the next time you delete a file. This should stop the error message from appearing.

hello
To fix the “The recycle bin on E:\ is corrupt” error message, follow these steps:

  1. Show Hidden Files and Folders:
  • Open File Explorer and go to the View tab.
  • Click on Options > Change folder and search options.
  • Under the View tab, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
  • Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) and click Apply.
  1. Delete the Recycle Bin Folder on E:
  • Go to the E: drive.
  • You should now see a hidden folder named $RECYCLE.BIN.
  • Right-click on the folder and select Delete.(Note: You may need administrative privileges to delete the folder.)
  1. Restart the System:
  • Once the folder is deleted, restart your computer.
  • Windows will automatically recreate a new, clean $RECYCLE.BIN folder for the E:\ drive.

This should stop the error from appearing again. If it persists, you can also try running chkdsk on the E:\ drive.

To do this:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Type chkdsk E: /f /r and press Enter. This will scan and fix any errors on the drive.
