I have an 18TB drive which I’m unable to RMA beacuse it is “Out of Region”. I contacted the support on the 1st of September, and I still not have a usable answer. The drive was recognised by Windows, but I was not able to format it (I/O error). I’ve tried it in several computers, in external USB as well, but it is not working. I’ve a very expensive 18TB brick, and it is not recognised now by Windows at all. I do not expect an answer, or help (according to my experience with WD). I’m just hyperventilating the fustration I have at the moment. Thank you for reading.

If you’re encountering an I/O error with your HGST (WD) DC HC550 hard
xivlauncher drive and are unable to proceed with a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA), consider these steps
- Data Backup: Immediately back up any critical data from the affected drive to prevent data loss, as I/O errors can indicate potential issues with data integrity.
- Diagnostic Tools: Use manufacturer-provided diagnostic tools or third-party utilities to assess the health of the hard drive. These tools can help identify specific issues causing the I/O error.
- Contact Support: Reach out to HGST (WD) customer support for assistance. Provide them with detailed information about the error and any diagnostic results obtained. They may offer troubleshooting steps or alternative solutions.
- Physical Inspection: Check for physical damage to the drive, such as visible signs of wear or damage to connectors. Document any findings for reference when contacting support.
- Service Options: If unable to RMA directly, inquire about repair services or replacement options through HGST (WD) customer support. They may offer alternatives depending on warranty status and the nature of the issue.
