My PC crashed (was using XP), now I am trying my new Passport Essential SE with my laptop -(Win 7). At first it showed the drive under my computer, but when I tried transferring data to it, after a few minutes the drive no longer showed. I went to device manager, tried to update drivers both via windows updater AND by browsing, but my laptop does not show WD drivers in the windows driver folder.
I am receiving (code 28), and I know I need these drivers. I found this page, but it sounds risky - is this my only alternative? http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/wdsmartwareupdate/step1.asp?id=wdfMP_SEEssential&os=win I really cannot afford to lose everything on my hard drive if this doesn’t work!! Please help - this is information for my business!
