Help me recover my recently died dog photos

Recently I found an old WD external drive model WD1600U017-005. BTW, I´m using Asus ZenBook with Win10.

Even though the light turns on, blue light, the system doesn´t show the drive; I try to download the drives, installed but nothing. Also, try reinstalling the “other devices” USB win driver, but nether.

I´m asking for this help because my 16yo dog, Huno, just died yesterday, and we can recover all his photos, and I´m sure this drive has some.

Sorry if this is not the correct category.

Thank you all for any help.

Good luck! I just had my phone stolen but luckily I’ve been backing up to cloud so I’m now trying so hard to retrieve my pets pics and having issues w- 2 step verify w/ no phone :paw_prints::paw_prints:

Since the drive indicator light is on, the power supply is normal, and the problem is most likely with underlying hardware recognition or file system corruption. Please check the following steps in order:

  1. Check Device Manager:
Right-click the Start icon and select Device Manager. Check “Universal Serial Bus controllers” and “Disk drives”.

If you see a device with a yellow exclamation mark, right-click and select Uninstall device, then unplug the hard drive and reinsert it, allowing Windows to automatically reload the official built-in driver.

  1. Open Disk Management:
Right-click the Windows Start icon and select Disk Management. Status: Check the list below to see if you can find a disk with a capacity of approximately 149GB (160GB).

If it displays “Unallocated” or “RAW”, do not format it. This indicates file system corruption, requiring data recovery software.

If it displays normally but has no drive letter: Right-click the partition, select “Change Drive Letter and Paths”, and assign it a new letter (such as F drive or G drive). Read also: Quickly Fix WD External Hard Drive Not Recognized in Windows 10/11
