G-Speed SATA versions

Can anyone tell me what SATA revision the Studio XL uses please? I can’t seem to find anything in any of the documentation.

For this device, the “transfer rate” is billed as 1350MB/s. Thunderbolt 2 is rated at 2498MB/s over both channels or 1249MB/s over a single channel. Where does the 1350MB/s figure come from?

Also, if the SATA revision is 3.0 (which is what I suspect) then the data rate to and from the disk is limited to 600MB/s which would surely mean this is the effective speed of the device as the SATA interface is the bottleneck.

Thanks

It is SATA 3, TB2 has a throughput of up to that speed but the limiting factor is the drives. Drives just don’t go that fast without many more in a large array or moving on to flash.

Drives will always be the bottleneck and very few things even tap the original TB1 10Gbps spec.

So if the SATA 3 interface is 600MB/s and TB2 is 2498MB/s, where does the 1350MB/s figure come from?

The drives don’t add up to a perfect amount. drives don’t spin at 600MB/s that’s just what the interface is capable of.
