Found an old WD passport, where can I find the needed software drivers?

Hello.

I found an old WD passport (Model: WD1600U017-005) - 150 gb. It works but it does not have any WD software on it. All I’m looking for is to put some documents on it and lock it with a password (WD Security) and maybe WD Backup. I cannot locate the model number on the WD site, have tried to download and install all possible software from the site but none of it recognizes the WD passport.

Thanks in advance for any help!

@ABars Have you tried a Google search or if you are using Windows like me, I highlighted the Model number, asked Cortana and came up with this. Maybe it will help.

The link has nothing to do with WD. I clicked the download button and installed some kind of cheap driver program that promises to solve all my problems if I buy the full version.

I don’t think its wise to look for these drivers on random sites. I was hoping that WD could help me directly.

From the information i can find … the WD1600U017-005 was manufactured in 2007

WD Security does not support drives manufactured before 2009

and WD Backup is not supported for the WD1600U17-00

To use either of these software you will need to purchase a Supported Hard Drive.

Note: In your original post above you say that “It Works” which i assume that your PC does recognize the hard drive. If so, then your operating system (eg. Windows) has installed the correct “Software Drivers” to recognize your hard drive.

WD Security & WD Backup are both “Application Software” which your hard drive does not support.
