I have tried to reformat my device, both on Windows 10 and a Windows 7 computer. I get the same error message saying “check the connection and it is not write-protected”.
It says 465 GB, and it’s 500 GB from the beginning. I have removed about 33 GB to a flash memory.
But it seems that the hard drive is trying to associate with some file in the moved files, I do not know, just a speculation. I have screenshots of the errors (.jpg). I have also changed the file format from NTFS to exFAT, as I previously had large files (over 4GB / piece). Formatted it now. Now I see this with 465 GB of 465 GB of free space. I then try to send the entire directory (15 GB) from the computer to the hard drive, but it does not work either, I’ve also tried to move (copy/paste) 200 MB it doesn’t work either.
Grateful for help!
I have a WD Elements 1078 USB 3.0 device.
Hi PatrikSweden,

If the issue persists, you can directly contact to our customer support.
Check for the below fixes and see if it helps:
- Remove Write Protection with a physical switch on a drive.
- Remove Write Protection by using Anti-Virus.
- Uncheck Read-only Status in Properties.
- Run CMD to Clear Write Protection.
- Remove Write Protection with CMD Alternative.
Hope it will help!
Hi Mike!
It doesn’t have a physical switch or button to “turn of” write-protection.
I’ve also checked in MCAfee Lifesife controlpanel after this, can’t find it.
I’ve runned a few CMD-commands (as a administrator in Win 10):
“diskpart” and then “list disk” - and there I fint it! So I wrote “Select disk 1” and then hit enter, - and after that I wrote “format fs=ntfs quick”. It doesn’t work at all. This was a suggestion from the MS Community.
My filesytem now is exFAT on the external drive.
