My computer is a laptop, Windows 7, fully updated with all MS updates issued. I purchased a 6 TB MyBook over the holidays for it. The MyBook is formatted as exFAT. While WD utilities work fine with this, I purchased this MyBook to use as a system backup with WD-True Image or stand alone Acronis True Image 2017. I have downloaded both the WDTI2016 (Acronis WD Edition). Each time I attempt to use this WD provided program, it fails to complete due to an error, usually a Connect Error. Acronis TI 2017 also fails. My wife’s computer (Windows 10) has a WD MyPassport backup drive and WDTI2016, and it works fine for both backup and for a system image. The MyPassport is formated NFTS. Based upon that, should I reformat my MyBook from exFAT to NFTS so that I can try the true image, and will it then do regular file archive and routine file backups under the new formatting?
Yes.
The unit comes exFAT for cross-platform compatibility, but NTFS is the better file system for Windows.
