Finishing the set up process

Hoping someone out there can help me! Just bought the My Passport portable, it installed properly (I hope!), but only says partially backed up. When I go to Smartware, it prompts me to update the software, and when I try to update, my computer basically shuts down, and the program doesn’t respond.

Does anyone know how to resolve this, or is my 2-year-old computer just not handling it.

Uninstall the Smartware software, then visit the WD website and download the latest version of the tool.
