I tried copying a folder of 101GB to my brand new Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD 1 TB. When i click on the folder (i am using windows 10) in the properties , i see the ‘Size’ field shows correctly the original size of the folder on my drive C: (toshiba 512 GB ssd) as 101gb, but the ‘Size on disk’ Field shows 220GB.
why is this and what is the solution ? this means i will only have less than half the capacity of the disk.

Keerti,
Thanks for the response. I have created a support case.
Will wait for the response.
I also have facing the same problem.
As recommended by Sandisk support, I reformatted the disk with NTFS format and it solved the problem.
I have the same issue for SSD 2TB for Mac.
Was your external drive formatted as FAT32 or exFAT? You are likely dealing with hidden copies or sparse files.
If your SSD is only used with Macs, reformatting it to APFS (Apple File System) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) can ensure better compatibility with macOS and potentially more efficient storage. [ Read also - How to Reformat External Hard Drive on Mac Without Losing Data? ]
Another workaround - use Terminal commands to transfer your file(s) correctly.
