External Drive not starting up

I have an old WD5000H1CS-00 External drive for my mac. A few years back it stopped working. If I plug it in I can hear the fan running, but no LED light goes on and the drive icon does not appear on my desktop. It seems like it is not booting up.

I would like to get it working long enough to do data recovery on it. Any ideas on how to do this?

Hello Philip,

Is your external drive visible in Disk Utility? If, then try this software; it allows 1 GB of free data recovery.
