My easystore external drive successfully backed up my files from my laptop, but it backed up the same files twice on the external drive. What do I need to do to ensure that my laptop files are backed up only once on the external drive? That is, so I don’t have duplicate backed-up files on the easystore external drive.

This is correct. There are two sets of files. One in Folder “History” and the actual files in “Volume{xxx}”. History seems to track changes made to the files, while Volume contains the current version. So we have to allow nearly or more than double space for the backup.
Right now that is causing me trouble because my backup partition does not have enough room and I can’t seem to extend the partition even though the drive does have extra room!. Looks like I will have to erase the drive and re-partition and re-backup.

Thank you for that explanation, Clifford. I wasn’t aware that the easystore drive would track changes to my files as well as keep a backup copy of the current version. I’m just looking for backup only rather than document management services so I guess I’ll be looking into how to use the drive with my Windows backup utility rather than with the WD Backup software. Thanks again!
