This is on a WD My Passport Essential SE 1 TB.
Under Windows 7 (64-bit) on the computer with WD Smartware Installed:
In Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows 1.17, as soon as I start the Quick Test or Extended Test, I get the result:
Test Result: FAIL Test Error Code: 11-Cable Test::Write sector error!
However, in the WD “Smartware” Diagnostics under Drive Settings, Quick Drive Test, I get a Pass.
Under Windows XP (32-bit) on a computer without WD Smartware Installed: Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows 1.17, Quick Test gives me a PASS.
Not sure what exactly is going on here, but I think that 11 ERROR under Win7 is pretty wierd. Not sure if it has something to do with having Smartware Installed?
I’m running the extended test I wanted to do on the XP machine right now, but I think later on, I’ll see what Data Lifeguard does on the Win7 machine after killing the WDSmartware.exe process.
(And wow, 106,884k in Task Manager for WDSmartware.exe which is doing absolutely nothing right now. I’d uninstall it if the drive would play nice and spin down for Windows Safely Remove Hardware).
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has had strange drive test issues like this?
