I purchased the My Book 6TB, and I want to use it to back up my photos through drag and drop.
Yesterday I dragged and dropped a bunch of photo folders onto it, it seemed to be working okay, and the WD widget on the top right of my Mac screen shows the space on the drive at 88% now.
Today, I clicked on a folder in the drive to open it up and check that photos are in there, but when i opened it up, it was blank, and then all of a sudden all folders disappeared and even the folders that came with the drive are gone, it’s just blank.
I tried to eject it and see if I can re-plug it in, but it’s saying something on my computer is using the drive even though nothing is. Very confused and concerned here, does anyone know what’s happening?
There could be multiple reasons that the files/folders are not showing up on your Mac. it’s recommended restarting the Mac and plugging the drive straight on the USB port avoiding USB Hub or connecting the drive on a different computer. You can also run diagnostics on the drive using First Aid. For more information please refer to the links below.
I hope you find the answer because I am having the same problem. Sometimes the drive itself goes missing. The only way to get back my files is to restart the computer. This is an inconvenience that I am not willing to accept.
I have shut down and restarted the computer, reinstalled Mojave on my MAC, and have done trouble shooing through disk utility. Nothing fixes the problem and I have requested a refund for the inferior product. By the way, NONE of my other external drives behave this way!
