Hoped it would be plug and play. I bought the 2T SSD for Time Machine backups. I see the icon for the SSD on the desktop, but Time Machine can’t interact. Do I need to install the app? Currently, the external drive reads as though only 1.2T is available. I clicked on the 1st option (left choice for Mac) and then now see icon for install WD software.app. The paper in the box with item is just arbitration legal stuff. I hope that clicking on this will not impede use of Time Machine. Can anyone who has tried this offer reassurance? Thanks.

You need to reformat the drive with the APFS file system then only you will be able to use your drive with macOS.
Make sure that you have backed-up your data stored on the drive before going to format the drive because reformatting is data destructive process.
