Oooh. This must mean that gapless playback is in the next Fuze firmware. I think thatās probably the single biggest reason for people to use Rockbox!

WELL, if you dive into a thread whose title asks about rockbox and the (predictable) posts about desired features upset you, it can only be described as willful self abuse. Might be something to bring up in your next therapy session (or a reason to start).

Sansafix also said here that āgapless playbackā wonāt be in the upcoming Fuze f/w release. Maybe the one after.
And probably the biggest reason Sansa owners opt for Rockbox is the ability to use larger than 2GB memory cards in them. Gapless only works with LAME-encoded .mp3 files (and those that are inherently gapless, like OGG & FLAC), so that leaves a lot out there that wonāt qualify.
Edit: file type clarification

??? Gapless on rockbox also works with formats that are inherently gapless*, including Ogg Vorbis, Musepack and FLAC.
Speaking of which, I donāt think any Sansa players with a public release of rockbox can play any of those formats on the normal firmware.
*by āinherently gaplessā I mean that there arenāt extra gaps in the files. That doesnāt mean that every player can progress from one track to the next without introducing its own delay.
Thanks, donp for pointing that out. I should have clarified my statement a bit more on āgaplessā & LAME-encoded .mp3 files.
I have edited my previous post.

Then you wonāt need to know, will you?
In Heaven, all Fuzes play perfectly, at the correct pitch, no crashing, no song limits, read folder/files structures, have infinite user-customizable backgrounds, and play videos in any format without using any software whatsoever to convert them first. All this is accomplished without the need for any firmware updates.
In Hell? . . . Well, thereās only 1 kind of mp3 player there. The I-Pod!
So if I were you, Iād change my ways . . . PDQ! :smileyvery-happy:

If anyone is intested, Rockbox 3.2 has been released:

Thatās a real big statement to makeā¦people will be disappointed about each and every feature Rockbox has and the new firmware hasnāt and you must know this - itās already happening, cf. the āgaplessā discussion
but perhaps we really are in for a big and positive surprise which makes Sansa the one media player brand which PERFECTLY adapts to their customerās whishes, and not just in a single release but on an ongoing basis
do it, Sansa, like the blue monster says: āchange the world or go homeā ā¦

There are free daily harp concerts, plus any rockers that made it up there.
Iām keeping an eye out for ROCKBOX for Fuze, but donāt ask me when its gonna be here.
But youāll know it, because Iāll be screaming in the forums, āROCKBOX IS HERE! ROCKBOX IS HERE! OMG ROCKBOX IS HERE!ā dangit pinky, stay off the shift for awhileā¦

Yeah, Iām really curious what that might mean.
The main things I can think of are (in no particular order):
It seems like 1 is pretty much confirmed not to be in this release. Sandisk has been very reluctant to implement 3. And I donāt think weāll ever see 4.
So that leaves ReplayGain. Sansafix did post once that they were considering it. That would be nice and would probably finally get me to switch to Ogg (MP3Gain is the only thing keeping me on MP3). But it doesnāt seem like a significant enough feature to say āyou might not need RockBoxā anymore.
I suppose they might shock us with folder browsing, but it seems unlikely. You would think they would have dropped some kind of a hint to quell the neverending āfolderā threads.
Anyone else have an pointless speculation? ![]()
So I thought this amazing firmware was supposed to come out back in march.
