Disk not readable .. I ignore .. It still works ! What does it mean?

Dear,

Just bought me a WD My Book Studio to have (finally) a firewired ext disk. I use them for digital DJ purposes to store all data. The USB’s I use for external software controllers. All this on a MacBook.

When I started up de drive for the first time (no data on it) everything was ok.

After all data was copied to the drive, when I start up the drive, I got the message “The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer”, Ignore/Eject. Although when I ignore, everything seems to be working fine. But still I’m wondering if this normal?

I do not have this message when I startup the drive on USB connector, only on Firewire connector.

I wonder what the problem is. Could it do more dammage in the futere? Anyone had the same issue before?

It would be nice to clear this up.

Hope someone knows about this bizarre fenomenom

Thanks

You could try to check if the drive has issues using the First Aid feature on Disk Utility (Close everything> Click on go> Utilities> Disk Utility> Click on the drive> First Aid). Smartware also has a diagnostic tool under Settings> Drive settings (My Passport SE has it, so you should have it as well).

If they say all is good, well… You could try to run a test on your Mac or check the drive with another tool for a second opinion. if it fails… Then you know the unit’s Firewire port is not working well.

I hope it helps!!
