Diagnostic & Erase Drive

So I have attempted to erase the drive only to have an error message pop up, the process does not complete and there is no solution to resolve the error encountered.

So then I decided t run a diagnostic and it has been running for more than 24 hours and has been stuck at 60 percent complete for the past 18 hours???

At what point is this expensive drive rendered useless and a purchase of a new external hard drive from a different manufacturer necessary??

Anyone have any suggestions on how to complete the diagnostic or to get it to advance pass the error message??

Obviously there is something wrong with it and I don’t feel I can trust it as a back up if I can’t even complete these two task.

Hello,

I recommend that you try formatting this drive or writing zeros using WD DLG.

Hello, I have a 1 TB WD external hard drive, serial number WDBBEP0010BBK-01. Recently I wanted to format the HD and I chose to do so through the Windows tool, and I de-selected the “Quick Format” option in order to be more thorough. After many hours (I left it going overnight), I awoke and saw that the drive was inacessible, and that I needed to format it again in order for it to be used.

This time, I tried to Quick Format, but the progress bar remains motionless for hours after beginning the process, as far as I can tell it doesn’t even begin to format at all. So I decided to come here to the forum and see if anyone has a similar problem, and I saw this topic and decided to low level format using the second link provided by HDKnows.

Now I can actually see that something’s going on, but the Estimated TIme Remaining is fluctuating around twenty THOUSAND hours, in other words, more than two years. This seems a little excessive, and I just wanted to know if I should be worried or not. My WD hard drive was working normally up until my decision to format it.
