Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows

I’ve noted an interesting behaviour where Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows v1.24.0.0 is listing certain drives with " (USB)" at the end of the Model Number field (when they are not attached via USB).

The drives in question (tested with WD3000HLFS, WD3000HLHX and WD2002FYPS, as well as reporting non-WD drives attached in the same manner with the same suffix) are connected as follows:

Drive  → AIC XJ3000-4243S ( http://www.aicipc.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ref=XJ3000-4243S) → 2M LSI/3ware SFF-8088 to SFF-8088 cable ( http://store.lsi.com/store.cfm/External_Multi-Lane_Cables/All_Cables/CBL-SFF8088SAS-20M/)  → LSI 9200-8e (8-Port SAS/SATA 6Gbps HBA) x8 PCIe 2.0 ( http://www.lsi.com/channel/products/storagecomponents/Pages/LSISAS9200-8e.aspx)  → x16 PCIe 2.0 slot on motherboard (ASUS M4A785-M)

The system in question is running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise (64-bit)

Hello,

I think it could a compatibility issue, DLG is only fully compatible with:

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows 7 32/64-bit versions
  • Windows Vista 32/64 bit versions
  • Windows XP 32/64-bit versions

You are using Windows Server 2008 R2.

Well, moving to a Windows 7 x64 OS made the other manufacturer drives show as " (SCSI)“, but the WD disks are still appearing as " (USB)” - currently with a WD3000HLFS.

Hello,

  • I got a quick question, how does your computer disk management see’s the drive?
  • Is the drive connected directly to the computer?
