I have a 4T my book about 2 years old and I have a problem I can’t fix. So basically, one point during its lifetime the data cable broke and I got a new one. Now, when I plug it in, my computer recognizes it but, it doesn’t make a new directory on the computer. So about 1-5 minutes later it disconnects and reconnects and shows the error: “USB device not recognized.” I do not know why this is happening.

You could try out another USB cables, connect the drive to a different USB port of computer to isolate the issue. Further, it is recommended to avoid USB hub. Plug the power adaptor directly into the wall socket.
I would suggest you to change your data cable as it is not seems compatible with the drive.
