I bought a 2T Passport that was compatible with MAC and PC. I backed up my entire MAC and bought a PC. Im trying to get the files I uploaded to my passport back on to my PC. My PC see the PAssport, says it is working properly. However, I can not access the files.
Do I need to reformat the passport to read both MAC and PC?
If your drive was formatted for a Mac it will not be readable on Windows. I don’t know of any free ware to make it usable on Windows. I’ve heard of this http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive but don’t know of any free alternatives. Reformatting the drive now will wipe out your data.
So… What about moving everything back on to a mac and formatting the drive for Mac and PC? Is that something that is possible? Would I then be able to access everything on both systems?
If you format the drive FAT32 both Mac and Windows can use it. The down side is the largest file you can use is 4 gig. If the drive is formatted for Windows NTFS it will be read only on a Mac. There are a few thing to check in this post to make it writeable on a Mac http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-Portable-Drives/unwritable-drive/td-p/435872 see #6 I don’t know much about Macs.
