Clone 2TB external MyBook to a 4TB MyBook

Is it possible to clone these?. I already have Winsows back up on the 2 TB and would like to transfer the backup and all my other files to the 4TB drive. Thanks.

Yes, it is possible to clone your 2TB My Book to your new 4TB My Book.

Plug both the 2TB hard drive and the 4TB hard drive into different USB ports on your computer. To ensure you can use all 4TB of space, the new drive must be formatted as a GPT (GUID Partition Table) disk rather than an older MBR disk.

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Disk Management.

  2. If a box pops up asking to “Initialize Disk”, choose GPT and click OK.

You cannot just copy and paste the files because Windows backup files and system data require exact duplicates. You should use cloning software to keep everything exactly as it is right now. Ensure that during the cloning process, you select the option to expand the storage partition to fill the entire 4TB capacity.
