Can't reinstall Smartware/update firmware for Passport running on XP machine

My passport is recognized on my Windows XP machine and the WD icon is blinking in the tray.  When I click the icon the message says: WD Smartware was not installed or found.

I’ve downloaded both the WD Smartware Installer and the Firmware update but neither will execute.  I just receive this popup window: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

So I have a Catch-22.  Smartware doesn’t appear to be installed (but worked just fine the last time I backed up) and I can’t install it because I may not have the appropriate permissions.

I disabled my password requirement to log on to my machine thinking that might do the trick.  No luck.  Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Well, I found the solution right after posting.  It turns out my Comodo antivirus was blocking everything.  I just disabled it and all is well.  Hope this helps someone else!
