First, go easy on me – I’m a 66-y-o housewife. I just added a 1tb WD Blue ssd to my system (ASUS F2A85-M mainboard with 2 WD standard drives). I can see it in Windows disk manager as unallocated, but I can’t initialize it – right-clicking on the drive doesn’t give me the option to run as administrator. I saw a similar question on a Windows board but the answer was to download a 3rd party partitioning software.Can someone either tell me or point me to a solution that I can implement without accidentally screwing up my machine?
There are some of the possible reasons for which the why Disk Management cannot initialize the disk:
- Virus infection
- Inappropriate CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) setting
- Damaged MBR (Master Boot Record)
- Partition loss
- Bad blocks and sectors
- Connection problem
According to the possible causes, you can take corresponding fixes: run anti-virus software, switch the connection cable, change the CMOS Settings, fix MBR and recover partitions, check and fix bad sectors, etc.
