Cant get video playback with my passport essentials drive (500gb)

I am a total newbie to using external drives for storing movies and getting them to playback thru a media player. I recently bought a My Passport 500gb to take movies from my PC and play them back thru USB connection on my PVR and/or BluRay player. I ripped the movies onto the external drive but when i connect the USB to the either the PVR or my Bluray it cannot find the device. I have used a simply flash stick drive previously and it recognizies it immediately allowing playback of the movie files.

Am i missing something, what do i need to do to get this to operate? I have read about reformatting to FAT32 (it is currently in NFTS (whatever that means) but it doesnt allow me to format to FAT32, it only shows provision for exFAT (whatever that means again). do i need to download something from somewhere?

Any help please??? Many thanks  in advance guys

I don’t know much about the video stuff. You should be able to format the drive from Windows. Remember FAT32 has a max file size of 4 gigs so that might be a problem. I’ve never used this tool but it gets recommended a lot http://gparted.sourceforge.net/  You might try looking in the sections that involve TV there may be more there.

The WD disk has a Permanent 1st Partition, the VCD.

If your PVR or Bluray are not able to “read” past the 1st partition than there is no way to play your videos.
