Can't get rid of Smartware

I’ve tried everything to get rid of this ■■■■. I can’t even hide it. I’ve updated to the latest firmware and then tried to use the VCD manager to at least hide the ■■■■. I followed the instructions exactly as stated on the support page, including downloading and using the files linked in the instructions (hoping that they would be most recent). The firmware update seems to work, but the VCD manager says that it doesn’t work with this version of the firmware.

Simply unmounting the Crapware does not work either. It always remounts within a few seconds.

Does anybody know how to successfully toss this intrusion?

There is no way to actually get rid ov the VCD. Did you disconnect both power and USB cables when directed? Did you shutoff antivirus and antispyware?  You can try going into the device manager and disable it there that is all I did. I don’t move the drive either.

I have exactly the same problem.  Followed all the directions to the letter…  Updated firmware on the drive, cycled it, downloaded VCD manager, chose the drive and it says I can not configure this firmware version…

What kind of ■■■■ is this?

In order to use the VCD Manager, you may need to update the firmware to the latest version, first.  Make sure you follow the instructions exactly for doing this.  Also, make sure that you have any important data on the drive backed up.

You may want to uninstall SmartWare also.

I too are trying to get rid off WD SmartWare from my pc. Current version 4.1.2.5. I try to uninstall via add/remove programs. When I try to uninstall I get promted that it wants to stop WD Drive Manager, I say ok to that and then it says that it was unablte to stop drive manager and a new prompt says that there is a problem with this windows installer package and that I should contact support personnel or package vendor in this case Western Digital.

I then contacted WD support that told me to update to latest version of SmartWare that is 4.1.4.3. I try that but no matter how many times I download version 4.1.4.3, install it and restarted, the wd smartware keeps saying that its version 4.1.2.5 and that a new update is available.

I even tried to stop the WD Drve Manager from starting up via msconfig but no luck there. I dont want this ■■■■ on my pc. I dont even have the drive anymore that used the smartware software.
