Can't find backed up volume on my WD Passport Essential

I neede to reimage my machine and upgarded everything up to Window 7.  Now when i hook up my WD and try to retieve the data that was once on my hard drive, I do not see any backup volumes on the right screen to select from.  Yet when i access the drive using windows explorer, all the data seems to be there in multiple locations based on file type.  Any thoughts on how to get the volume to appear in the application so that i can retrieve it easily?

This may sound like an odd suggestion, but update Smartware to the latest version with the drive disconnected (Just the Smartware software on your computer, ignoring the firmware), then plug the drive back and RUN A BACKUP, it will change the structure of the old backup to be accessible in a folder called SWSTOR inside the drive, so you can navigate the old backup at easy.
