I have the most up to date WD utilities but I get a “attach a supported wd drive” and even though the drive is mounted and unlocked the software can’t see the drive. Anyone?

Have you checked on disk utility to verify if the drive appears there? Also try to connect it on a different computer to verify if it shows up on it.
