Cannot eject My Passport Ultra 1TB from WIN10 PC

My Passport Ultra 1TB will not eject from my PC. It’s configured for hourly backups. It’ll be idle and yet still will not release. I get a message saying that ‘Windows cannot release the drive. Please close all applications’ or something to that effect.
Running WIN10 on Dell PC. Got 2 of these drives from Amazon about 3 weeks ago, to replace my Seagate, which failed. I run Carbonite, so this is a local backup that I take with me.

I noticed it hasn’t done a backup since June 7, and it’s set to backup every hour. Why are there always issues with portable drives?! Am running a complete drive test now.
I wish it was a continuous backup like my Seagates were. Sigh.

Hello,

Make sure that you don’t have any programs that are still linked to the passport. Music player, Video player or any antivirus that might be running a check on the disk.

You can try resetting the computer and trying to eject the unit again. If the issue persist, try contacting WD support for direct assistance.

Thanks ERmorel. Nothing is linked to the passport. I don’t have video or music files, just docs and photos. Antivirus isn’t set to auto-run antivirus on the drive.

Are you sure? Because

What program is doing these backups? This program need to be closed to release the mounting of the drive.

I exit everything. Also, I’ve just had to copy all my files over because
the backup hasn’t run since 7 June.
I use WD Backup for the backup software.
