Cannot detect 2 TB Elements

Hi,
I’ve bought a new 2 TB WD Elements Harddisk.
I connected it to my mac (macbook pro, el capitan v 10.11.6) and couldn’t detect it.
Went through the usual solutions google threw up.
No it’s not detected, so I cannot mount it.
It doesn’t show up in Disk utility, or in the System Report under Storage.
I’ve enabled Finder’s show harddrive option.

On terminal:
-“diskutil list” shows only the inbuilt mac SSD harddrive
-“ioreg -p IOUSB” and “system_profiler SPUSBDataType” both show only the bluetooth.

The funny thing is that it shows up on my windows laptop, so I’m pretty sure it’s not a power issue but I may be wrong. This is something that has bugged my other harddrives too, one WD, one Transcend.

This should by all means already work.

Any suggestions to get this working?

ps. I’ve tried “turning it off and on again”

If the unit uses USB 3.0 and your Apple system is from 2011 then you may have to replace the USB 3.0 cable with a Micro USB 2.0 cable.
