Can you partition the My Book (4T) so it can be used for both a PC and a Mac? Pls help!

I was using my WD My Book external hard drive with my personal PC laptop, but now my work has given me a Macbook Pro to work on, and I can’t save any files onto the WD My Book hard drive on the Mac.

Is there a way to format the My Book so I can partition it and use on both my PC and Mac??

Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention…I can open and view the files on the Mac, but I can’t add any files onto the My Book external hard drive. I want to be able to view and save files on it from my Mac (like I can with my PC already).

A ddrive formatted ofr Windows NTFS is read only on a Mac. Some software might work

Hi livlavida, you can try formatting the My Book using the exFAT file system, that way you can use it on both Mac and Windows PC’s.

Do you know how and where I can do this?? Thx for the rec!

Sorry for the delay, you can format the My Book from the Disk Utility App, click on the link below for the steps, be sure to select “exFAT” on format and “GUID Partition table” on options.

Thanks for your quick reply! And you’ve tried this before and have had absolutely NO problems or issues down the road?

I have used it before without problems, just note that data corruption can happen with any file system that you use.
