Can not access files - help please!

Hi all,

I have a WD My Passport Ultra and i use it on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 8.

I think i may have induced a critical failure of some sorts on the passport as it no longers shows any files.

It connects with a permanent light on and instead of displaying the contents all i get is a Local Disk (f) icon and that the device is not ready.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Community.

If the hard drive is at least detected as a local volume then the issue could be related to the file system and a data recovery application should be able to repair or extract the files. I have seen Community posts recommending TestDisk and PhotoRec.
